Power Console Operator
Responsibilities
- Maintains system demand, load conditions, and asset performance in real time.
- Operates equipment in accordance with approved procedures to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous generation operations.
- Coordinates with local operators and field personnel to align control room actions with on-site activities, maintenance, and operational priorities.
- Partners with Commercial, Scheduling, and Optimization teams to support operational decisions balancing reliability, efficiency, and commercial objectives.
- Analyzes load forecasts, performance metrics, and operating constraints to assess system conditions and respond effectively to changing demands.
- Responds to alarms and abnormal conditions, evaluates system impacts, and implements corrective actions to maintain system reliability and service continuity.
- Communicates system status, outage conditions, and restoration updates to customers and stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
Requirements
- Required: High school diploma/GED; at least two (2) years' experience in relevant industry or control room environment.
- Prioritized: Associate degree or two-year technical degree and two (2) years’ experience in power plant, water or electricity operations; including control room or similar operating experience.
- Prioritized: NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) System Operator Certification.
- Operates and monitors power generation and electrical equipment in real time using SCADA, EMS, DCS, or similar systems, adjusting parameters as needed to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations across multiple assets.
- Coordinates control room activities with on-site operators and field personnel to align operational actions with maintenance activities and operational priorities.
- Monitors and continuously evaluates electric system conditions, including load, voltage, and power flows, across the transmission and distribution network on a 24/7 basis.
- Adjusts system parameters such as voltage levels, generation dispatch, and interconnection settings to maintain reliability and efficiency.
- Utilizes advanced monitoring and control tools to oversee control systems and alarms to ensure safe and stable operation of the power system.
- Remotely operates breakers, transformers, and other equipment to balance system load and maintain service continuity.
- Exercises real-time operational decision-making authority to protect system reliability and safety while executing power rerouting decisions and implementing emergency procedures with timely notifications to minimize customer and stakeholder impact.
- Responds to requests for system information and supports outage coordination activities in accordance with applicable operating procedures and reliability standards.
- Maintains a strong customer focus by servicing and informing customers through clear, timely, and accurate communication.
- Collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer needs are understood and met while supporting safe, reliable operations.
- Delivers a consistent, high-quality customer experience and sustains operational performance that achieves 99.98% reliability.
- Based in a centralized Remote Operations Center and provides operational support across multiple power generation sites.
- Coincides with local operators and field technicians to manage real-time conditions, support field execution, and ensure reliable operations in support of the growing Power Innovation business.
Qualifications
