The primary purpose of this position is to smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete such as floors, walkways, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. The role includes aligning forms for sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, patching voids, and using saws to cut expansion joints. Responsibilities
- Signals concrete truck driver to position vehicle to facilitate pouring concrete.
- Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
- Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
- Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency with handheld screen and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
- Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
- Finishes concrete surfaces and wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to finish.
- Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
- Molds expansion joints and edges.
- Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
- Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
- Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
- Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
- Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.
- Operates all equipment and tools required to do each job, which may include cement mixing machines, power trowels, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other instruments.
- Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use.
- Responsible for personal safety and the safety of co-workers and others on the job site.
- Authorized and obligated to stop work if an unsafe condition or situation is observed.
- Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
- Reports all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information belonging to the Company.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of experience finishing concrete structures, pier foundations, steel forming systems, and pouring concrete is preferred.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Must be able to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and perform other similar physical activities as needed.
- Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes.
- Must be capable of identifying critical issues and formulating action plans with all levels of management.
- Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by safety representatives or management.
- Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner during emergencies.
