About the role
The Poultry Care Supervisor manages day-to-day activities of Poultry Care Attendants (PCA) and leads work functions in the care of pullets or layers, including assisting with bird moves, vaccinations, feeding, and overseeing general well-being of the layers and/or pullets. This role also assists the Poultry Production Manager in providing PCAs with effective performance feedback.
Responsibilities
- Scheduling and task management for all Poultry Care Attendant direct reports
- Approval of time cards
- Monitor workers to ensure proper handling of the layers and/or pullets at all times
- Checkout of poultry housing systems (Feed, Lights, Air, Water, Sanitation, FLAWS) to ensure all systems are working properly
- Ensure procedures and processes related to poultry husbandry are being followed at all times
- Monitor animal health, keep current on accepted practices and methods relating to animal health
- Lead by example, look for ways to improve practices
- Look for opportunities to improve safety and inform Safety Manager of potential hazards
- Act as a team player (supports and encourages co-workers); treat management, co-workers, and employees with respect
- Monitor all records for mortality and chore check lists for completion of tasks
- Keep paperwork up-to-date
- Order supplies as needed
- Assist with bird weighing, and moving birds when necessary
- Schedule appropriate help for those tasks
- Assist in monitoring AEI/PMSI/Pulse control systems
- Respond to alarms as needed
- Assist in working with processing in monitoring/controlling egg flow
- Perform other duties as requested
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong organization skills
- Comfortable with current technology including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Strong background in poultry care and animal management
- Strong knowledge of animal welfare standards and biosecurity
- General knowledge of the regulations and standards for Safe Quality Foods, OSHA, HAACP, Eggland's Best, FDA, Animal Care standards, and USDA
- Uncompromised ethics and integrity
- High degree of initiative

Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in poultry care required
- Associate's Degree in Animal Science, or related field is a plus
- Two years of relevant leadership experience is preferred
Physical demands and work environment
- Regularly required to sit, talk, see and hear
- Stand and walk
- Lift or move up to 25 pounds
- Verbally communicate in a concise manner
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and working at a computer monitor
- Hours may be long and irregular
- Typical farm/agricultural environment with attendant noise level
- Often exposed to dust, dirt, odors associated with agricultural farming, and excessive noise levels associated with farm machinery
