About the role

Pouch Machine Operator - Level 1 visually inspects, removes, and packs bags systematically into boxes to maximize safety, quality, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work safely in accordance with personal and product safety rules.
  • Inspects product for visual defects and completes inspection reports periodically.
  • Removes product from the machine and discards defective products, including scrapping bags.
  • Packs all good products in the designated manner, including basic use of pack assist and auto pack equipment.
  • Closes boxes and mini bins, implementing correct aseptic procedures.
  • Reads product specifications to correctly pack bags.
  • Completes hour-by-hour charts, Kaizen newspapers, and other Lean documentation.
  • Operates bag-making auxiliary equipment, including the Tap Applicator, Bag Separator, On-line combiner, and Manual Hose Applicator.
  • Reports recurring defects or deficiencies with the product and/or machine to appropriate personnel or shift management immediately.
  • Works cooperatively to keep the machine stocked with fitments and running to increase safety, quality, and OEE.
  • Assists the department in various capacities if the machine is down.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area according to 5S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Inspects materials, products, and containers at each step of the packaging process.
  • Trains employees at all Level 1 tasks.
  • Participates in setups by removing spouts and dip strips from the ABM and staging boxes.

Requirements

  • Must possess a 2-year technical college certificate or be pursuing certification in a manufacturing-related field, or have equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to work all shifts and perform overtime.
  • Must be able to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and presentations.
  • Basic math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to calculate mean, median, and mode, and apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) to quality processes.
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Virtual Client for daily activities.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and apply technical material, including print specifications.

Pay

$21/hr - $25/hr plus a $3.00/hr shift differential for 7pm - 7am shifts.
