Pottery Instructor - Throwing and Hand Building **On Call**

About the Role

Greet guests and provide an introduction to pottery techniques, terminology, and the pottery-making process. Demonstrate wheel-throwing techniques while clearly explaining each step to participants. Prepare clay by wedging and centering as needed, and teach guests the fundamentals of centering, pulling walls, and basic trimming of newly created pieces. Maintain strong organizational skills to ensure guest pottery is properly labeled, documented, and stored together throughout the process. This position facilitates indoor pottery classes and provides an engaging, educational experience for guests.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive to work a half hour before program begins wearing nametag and proper uniform
  • Prepare receipts and be set up for activities prior to guests arrival
  • Share knowledge of pottery techniques with guests and offer advice to improve their artwork (e.g., demonstrate and assist with centering clay, wedging, pulling walls)
  • Create, organize, and teach activities, arts, and crafts for the best guest experience
  • Encourage guests to explore and sign up for additional art classes
  • Order wine as necessary from room service
  • Clean all areas of the cottage, including wheels, tools, floors, and ensure all cleaning is done wet for health/safety
  • Monitor inventories of crafts and department forms daily/weekly; notify lead or manager when items are low
  • Report any work orders that need to be created to lead or manager
  • Attend Forbes trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Keep guests on task to complete their class within the given time frame

Requirements

  • Teaching or supervisory skills and a passion for helping guests create art and expand their creativity
  • Flexibility to work on an on-call basis
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with ease
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Must pass a thorough background screening prior to commencing work

Qualifications

Prefer a BA or educational background in a related field, but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Varied times required for sitting, walking, standing, and bending
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Good hearing and manual dexterity
  • Distance vision of 1-3 feet
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions (mostly indoors)
  • Ability to drive a golf cart
