Position Overview

The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation is a large, multi-faceted Institute housed in a 33,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on NC State University’s Centennial Campus in Raleigh. Our work encompasses educational research, professional development, policy and program evaluation, and direct services to schools, districts, state departments of education and public- and private sector organizations. We are deeply involved in work throughout North Carolina, leading some of the major statewide K-12 education initiatives and working closely with the Department of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and the majority of school districts in the State on the transition to digital teaching and learning. Since opening in 2005, the Friday Institute has developed a strong national presence, working with organizations throughout the country, and is increasingly developing international connections. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support developing and reviewing IRB application, as well as obtaining appropriate approvals for research.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data security and adhere to all ethical norms associated with the responsible conduct of research.
  • Support all aspects of research, including collection, management, and analysis of data and writing to disseminate project findings.
  • Support writing of project reports.
  • Publish and/or co-publish research and practitioner-focused manuscripts and contribute to presentations of project findings and initiatives.
  • Lead the planning of logistics for summer data science camps.
  • Affiliate with the planning and facilitation of data science camps, which may involve travel.
  • Affiliate with the development of datasets and curriculum materials, as needed.
  • Affiliate with the design and implementation of professional learning for teachers, as needed.
  • Coordinate and attend regular team meetings and other projected-related events, interact with the project evaluator, and engage with teachers, students, project advisors, and consultants.
  • Manage aspects of the project, including communication between project staff and others.
  • Support Dr. Mojica in all research activities, including piloting curricular materials in with secondary students, and will lead some aspects of the research.
  • Lead the management across the multiple aspects of the project.
  • Responsible for leading the planning of logistics for the Summer Data Science Camp.
  • Support dissemination of project work and research and assist in any other aspects of the project as needed.
  • Attend and engage in Friday Institute meetings and events as identified by the supervisor.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with flexibility based on program needs.

  • Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education: The following include desired experience, skills, and training/education: experience disseminating research through scholarly writing, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications; expertise with word processing programs, spreadsheets, and video editing software; proficiency in using qualitative data analysis software/tools (e.g., ATLAS.ti); experience working with high school teachers and/or students in informal learning spaces; demonstrated engagement with working in rural communities in informal or formal educational spaces; familiarity with investigating data using a Data Life Cycle; ability to use no-code (e.g., CODAP) and/or coding tools for data exploration, analysis, and visualization; and, working knowledge of designing datasets and curricular materials to support the development of making good decisions with data to solve problems.
