Posting Details Position Information Posting Number PG191759PD Position Number 00112279 Position Type Post Doc FLSA Exempt Departmental Information Department ID 140201 - Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department 140201 - Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Job City & State Raleigh, NC Position Information Position Overview Essential Job Duties The Abolhasani Research Group in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in microreaction engineering and automated flow chemistry as part of the NSF-funded SPEED Programmable Cloud Laboratory. The successful candidate will develop automated continuous-flow and microfluidic experimental platforms for accelerated chemical and materials discovery. Research will combine microreaction engineering, multiphase transport, automated reaction screening, in-line/online analytical characterization, and closed-loop optimization. Applications may include homogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, nanoparticle and semiconductor materials synthesis, and other solution-phase chemical and materials systems relevant to SPEED. Highly motivated candidates with experience in flow chemistry, microfluidics, reaction engineering, transport phenomena, catalysis, or automated chemical experimentation are encouraged to apply. Duties And Responsibilities Include: Design and develop automated continuous-flow and microfluidic reactor platforms.Develop flow systems for homogeneous, gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, photochemical, and/or materials synthesis applications.Integrate pumps, valves, mass-flow controllers, temperature/pressure control, and other process equipment.Integrate flow reactors with in-line and online analytical characterization tools such as HPLC, GC, MS, UV-Vis, fluorescence, Raman, or IR spectroscopy.Develop automated reaction-screening and optimization workflows.Investigate mixing, mass transfer, heat transfer, residence-time distributions, kinetics, and other fundamental transport and reaction phenomena.Interface flow platforms with SPEED automation, data-management, and AI/ML infrastructure.Conduct high-throughput and closed-loop experimental campaigns.Analyze experimental results and develop mechanistic and data-driven understanding of chemical systems.Collaborate with chemists, materials scientists, automation engineers, and AI/ML researchers.Prepare scientific manuscripts, presentations, technical documentation, and project reports. Requirements and Preferences Work Schedule Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Department Required Skills Demonstrated experimental research experience in reaction engineering, transport phenomena, flow chemistry, microfluidics, chemical synthesis, or closely related areas. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Experience with continuous-flow chemistry, microfluidics, multiphase flow, homogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, nanomaterials synthesis, high-pressure/high-temperature experimentation, or automated reaction systems is preferred.Experience with analytical characterization such as HPLC, GC, MS, NMR, UV-Vis, fluorescence, Raman, or IR spectroscopy and programming experience in Python or LabVIEW are desirable.
