Position Summary

A postdoctoral position (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) is available in the laboratory of Dr. Erica Schmitt in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology/Immunology at WashU. The Schmitt Lab studies immune dysregulation in inborn errors of immunity. We are specifically interested in investigating the mechanisms leading to T and B cell dysregulation. In complementary studies, we are investigating antigen-specific responses and mucosal tolerance using multiple different in vivo and in vitro models and human samples. Candidates with backgrounds in immunology and bioinformatic skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the Role

Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor including (but not limited to): Manages their own project, which should lead to a first author publication. Develops proficiency with mouse models of immune dysregulation and designing experiments to investigate mechanisms leading to immune dysregulation. Acquires enhanced skills in writing, public speaking, and critical evaluation of scientific documents. Presents scientific work both inside and outside the institution. Assists with grant preparation and reporting and submits training grant applications to support their work. Prepares and submits papers on research. Assists in the design of research experiments. Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Salary range is commensurate with experience.

Education

  • Required Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D. Or Equivalent Terminal Or Doctoral Degree.
