About the role
The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, headquartered at Florida State University, seeks highly qualified applicants to join a program in optical spectroscopy of condensed matter, with an emphasis on ultrafast optical techniques. The post-doctoral associate will work with a team to develop and use instrumentation to produce, deliver, and measure extreme ultraviolet (XUV) light to samples placed in the 25 T Split-Florida Helix magnet.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of a novel experimental platform combining ultrafast extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy with high magnetic fields to investigate emergent phenomena in quantum materials and other condensed matter systems
- Work closely with DC Magnetic Field staff, external project co-PIs, MagLab users, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows
- Contribute to collaborative and independent research projects
- Publish manuscripts
- Participate in the development of external grant proposals
Qualifications
- PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related area (completed by time of appointment)
- Demonstrated expertise in ultrafast optical spectroscopy including sample preparation, data acquisition, experiment design and construction
- Experience with high-harmonic generation, XUV spectroscopy, or related ultrafast nonlinear optical techniques is highly desirable
- Familiarity with cryogenic and vacuum technologies for low-temperature measurements
- Ability to bring innovative methods, technology development, or collaborative opportunities will be considered a significant strength
