Job Summary

The University of Arizona Department of Astronomy & Steward Observatory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the newly initiated Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Medium-Band (MB) Survey.

Science

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Eiichi Egami and take a central role in all aspects of the survey. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in imaging data-processing pipeline development. Candidates working in cosmology or high-redshift galaxies are especially encouraged to apply and will have opportunities to design and lead science programs in collaboration with team members at UA/SO (Behroozi, Eifler, Fan, Krause, Rozo) and NOIRLab (Dey).

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to all aspects of the Subaru HSC MB Survey, including:
  • Planning and executing observations
  • Developing data-processing and analysis pipelines
  • Conducting follow-up observations using ground- and space-based telescopes
  • Publishing scientific results
  • Collaborate on and lead science programs in partnership with UA/SO and NOIRLab researchers
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Compensation & Benefits

Participate in outreach and public engagement activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or a closely related field completed by start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics.
  • Research background in cosmology or high-redshift galaxies.
  • Technical expertise in imaging data processing, pipeline development, or survey operations.

  • Hrs per Week: 40
