Postdoctoral Fellow-MSH-30030-294
About the role
The Pawlica Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City is seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in RNA biology, molecular virology, and host-virus interactions. Our lab studies how viruses use noncoding RNAs, structured RNA elements, small RNAs, and RNA-binding proteins to redirect host post-transcriptional gene regulation. Current projects focus on viral RNA-mediated control of mRNA stability, translation, microRNA pathways, RNA-binding protein occupancy, and antiviral gene expression during coronavirus, paramyxovirus, and herpesvirus infections. The successful candidate will investigate the functions of viral noncoding RNAs, conserved viral RNA elements, and host RNA-binding proteins during infection. Projects may involve herpesviral noncoding RNAs, regulatory RNA elements in SARS-CoV-2 and measles virus, PUMILIO proteins, ILF3/NF90-family proteins, microRNA regulation, and RNA-protein interactions.
Responsibilities
- Investigate the functions of viral noncoding RNAs, conserved viral RNA elements, and host RNA-binding proteins during infection.
- Conduct experiments related to viral RNA-mediated control of mRNA stability, translation, microRNA pathways, RNA-binding protein occupancy, and antiviral gene expression during coronavirus, paramyxovirus, and herpesvirus infections.
- Collaborate with other researchers and contribute to the development of novel research projects.
- Present findings at scientific meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
- A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, or a related field.
- Experience in virology, RNA biology, and/or host-virus interactions.
