Position Overview
The VCU Department of Psychiatry is seeking to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow for its Child and Adolescent Division. This position is available at the VTCC to study neuro-cognitive bases of neuropsychiatric disorders.
Position Responsibilities
- Study neuro-cognitive bases of neuropsychiatric disorders using neuro-cognitive techniques such as neuropsychological methodology, task-based fMRI, and ideally fNIRS.
- Develop and apply machine learning approaches to study these traits.
- Characterize the neuro-computational underpinnings of reinforcement-based decision-making difficulties in patients with depression, ADHD, and conduct problems.
- Determine and predict treatment response via neuro-cognitive indices.
- Collaborate in an exciting, highly collaborative and new research environment focused on neuropsychiatric disorders and aggression.
- Work under the mentorship of Drs. Blair and Stepanova, and their collaborators.
Qualifications
- Hold an M.D. or Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, bioinformatics, or a similar quantitative discipline.
- Have proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R and experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Show demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population.
- Have experience with neuropsychiatric and substance use disorders (or other complex traits).
- Have experience with machine learning approaches.
- Have a proven ability to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative research environment.
- Show strong critical and independent thinking skills.
