Postdoctoral Fellow - Cancer Biology

Position Overview

A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available under the supervision of Dr. Paulino Tallón de Lara, an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, in the Department of Cancer Biology. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to perform hands-on experiments to develop novel mechanism-guided precision therapeutic strategies to address unmet clinical needs in colorectal cancer, and to understand the role and mechanisms by which chromosomal instability modifies the tumor immune response.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on experiments to develop novel mechanism-guided precision therapeutic strategies for colorectal cancer
• Investigate the role and mechanisms by which chromosomal instability modifies the tumor immune response
• Conduct experiments and perform data analysis
• Prepare manuscripts
• Attend lab meetings, journal clubs, and research seminars
• Help the PI merge mechanistic insights with the translational objectives of experimental therapeutics and the accompanying stratifications of genetic biomarkers to address unmet clinical needs in colorectal cancer
• Carry out all duties and responsibilities in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations

Learning Objectives

The Postdoctoral Fellow will train, learn, and study design, data analysis, and manuscript writing. By the end of the appointment, the postdoc will learn how to independently develop and execute a project that addresses a clinical challenge or knowledge gaps in the field. The fellow will also learn to independently conduct data analysis that drives hypotheses and experimental design.

Eligibility Requirements

• PhD degree in cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, or related fields with less than two years of postdoctoral experience
• Experience with rodent studies is required
• Individuals with an MD with significant wet lab experience will also be considered
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
• Proven track record of publications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career
• The appointment is not part of a clinical training program
• The appointee works under the supervision of a senior scholar or a department in a university or similar research institution (e.g., national laboratory, National Institutes of Health (NIH), etc.)
• The appointee has the freedom to and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment

Pay

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.

Work Arrangements

Offsite work arrangements are subject to approval and may be modified or revoked at any time based on business needs, performance considerations, or regulatory requirements.
