About the role

Join Amgens Mission of Serving Patients At Amgen, if you feel like you're part of something bigger, it's because you are. Our shared mission to serve patients living with serious illnesses drives all that we do. Since 1980, we've helped pioneer the world of biotech in our fight against the world's toughest diseases. With our focus on four therapeutic areas Oncology, Inflammation, General Medicine, and Rare Disease, we reach millions of patients each year. Amgen is advancing a broad and deep pipeline of medicines to treat cancer, heart disease, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases, and obesity and obesity-related conditions. As a member of the Amgen team, you'll help make a lasting impact on the lives of patients as we research, manufacture, and deliver innovative medicines to help people live longer, fuller, happier lives. Our award-winning culture is collaborative, innovative, and science-based. If you have a passion for challenges and the opportunities that lie within them, you'll thrive as part of the Amgen team. Join us and transform the lives of patients while transforming your career.

  • Focus on the development of AI/ML-based tools for the discovery and engineering of biocatalysts within DS manufacturing routes
  • Interact and collaborate with scientists across various Amgen functions
  • Apply cutting-edge protein design tools to biocatalyst design
  • Develop and train models for (1) enzyme discovery from metagenomic databases and (2) active learning through enzyme evolution campaigns
  • Publish application of developed models on model systems

Requirements

  • PhD at time of appointment
  • Demonstration of independent design, execution, and interpretation of experiments and results, as exemplified by a solid publication record with first-author publication(s)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Experience with enzyme design and computation prediction for biocatalysis
  • Experience with protein language models, structure-based protein design (e.g. proteinMPNN), or other recent developments in ML for protein design
  • Experience with collaborative deep learning workflows, including developing code using PyTorch and managing version control and code reviews via Git
  • PhD in computational biology, computational chemistry, machine learning, or related field
