Postdoctoral Fellow - Aging and Leukemia
About the role
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Department of Cancer Biology and Molecular Medicine, Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope under the mentorship of Dr. WenYong Chen. Our lab is interested in studying genetic and epigenetic alterations during aging of normal hematopoietic stem cells and in leukemia stem cells that lead to genomic instability, leukemia development and drug resistance.
Responsibilities
- Utilize bone marrow transplantation and genetic knockout mouse models, stem cell biology, and molecular and imaging techniques to study hematopoietic/leukemic stem cells, and molecular regulation of genomic instability.
- Conduct independent research and contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases.
- Participate in relevant literature and develop new hypotheses based on findings.
- Collaborate with other researchers and participate in team meetings and seminars.
Requirements
- PhD in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Pharmacology or related fields.
- Strong interest in aging and cancer biology.
- Extensive experience with basic molecular and cell biology skills.
- Experience with tissue collection, histology and immunohistochemistry.
- Experience with cell culture, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and cell-sorting.
- Good problem-solving skills and passion to follow relevant literature.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of productivity reflected in first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications
- 2 years or less in a postdoctoral training role.
Skills
- Experience in hematology and handling animal models preferred.
- Experience with epigenetic techniques preferred.
