Postdoctoral Digital Humanities Scholar

About the Role

The Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to support its mission as a digital humanities resource for the state of Mississippi. This grant-funded position, potentially renewable for up to one year, will focus on planning a conference and summer workshop, preparing materials for secondary school instructors, and managing relationships with partner institutions throughout the state.

Responsibilities

• Develop, plan, and prepare lessons, training guides, and materials for summer workshops hosted by the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub. The 2027 workshop will target secondary-education teachers from across Mississippi.
• Prepare content experts and staff to teach and support summer workshops.
• Lead digital humanities workshops for both internal and statewide partners.
• Assist in the development of a statewide network of university and college digital humanities programs.
• Support funded digital humanities programs at USM and at partner institutions across the state in conjunction with University Libraries.
• Plan, organize, and lead a conference on digitalization and the digital humanities for stakeholders in Mississippi alongside Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub staff.
• Adhere to Center for Digital Humanities, Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub, and university policies, procedures, and regulations, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• PhD in a humanities field (e.g., English, History, Philosophy), with at least one year's experience working in the digital humanities or DH pedagogy.
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship.

Skills

• Experience working with digital humanities tools, pedagogy, and methods.
• Experience teaching, with special consideration given to experience teaching digital humanities skills to audiences with a range of experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to adjust work based on input and work within a collaborative, team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in workshop and/or conference planning.
• Experience with website development or programming.
• One year’s teaching experience.

Pay

Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00
