The Wall of Wind (WOW) Experimental Facility at Florida International University (FIU) is at the forefront of Wind Engineering research, participating in multiple major research initiatives funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and several other state and private entities. Primary duties
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on wind engineering, focusing on experimental and/or computational aspects.
- Design, set up, and execute experiments using the Wall of Wind facility, including wind flow field, aerodynamic, and aeroelastic testing.
- Develop and apply advanced numerical models (e.g., FEA, CFD) to simulate wind effects on structures.
- Analyze and interpret experimental and numerical data, and disseminate findings through technical reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Assist in the development of research proposals and contribute to the acquisition of external funding.
- Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Collaborate with researchers from other institutions and industry partners.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in wind engineering, fluid mechanics, and/or building aerodynamics.
- Experience with experimental techniques in wind engineering, such as PIV, pressure measurements, and load measurements.
- Proficiency in computational methods, such as finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
- Experience with data acquisition and analysis using software such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Python.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven track record of publishing research findings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
