About the role

The Dai laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University is seeking applications for a postdoctoral associate position. We are recruiting a motivated individual to contribute to the development of the new methodology of cellular tomography and cryo-focused ion beam milling for multiple collaborative projects. Research areas of primary interest include protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and the structure and dynamics of membrane proteins. The lab is hosted in the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, co-located with the RCSB Protein Data Bank. In addition to the Rutgers Cryo-electron Microscopy and Nanoimaging Facility, core facilities housed within the Institute include protein NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and hardware for high-performance computing.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies in cellular tomography and cryo-focused ion beam milling
  • Collaborate on multiple research projects focusing on protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and the structure and dynamics of membrane proteins
  • Utilize state-of-the-art imaging and nanomilling facilities at Rutgers University
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with other researchers and institutions

Requirements

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, or a related field
  • Experience with cryo-electron microscopy, focused ion beam milling, and/or structural biology techniques
  • Strong background in protein aggregation and membrane protein research
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in cutting-edge research and innovation
  • Strong publication record or equivalent experience

Skills

  • Proficiency in cryo-electron microscopy and focused ion beam milling
  • Knowledge of protein aggregation and membrane protein research
