About the Role
Florida International University (FIU)/Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) is a national leader in integrating community-based medical education and clinical care. HWCOM is also an academic and clinical affiliate of Baptist Health-South Florida and Nicklaus Children's Hospitals. The Chandler Laboratory within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at FIU/HWCOM is currently seeking a full-time, non-tenure Postdoctoral Associate position.
Research Focus
The selected candidate will be involved in basic science research focused on understanding human fucosyltransferase (FUT) substrates, and their involvement in epithelial-immune cell interactions and immunity/tolerance in mucosal tissues.
Responsibilities
- Work with animal models
- Drive the development of mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of fucosylated glycoconjugates
- Analyze scientific data
- Write manuscripts for publication
- Attend conferences
- Assist with grant proposals to agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense, and the National Science Foundation
- Service to the College of Medicine (e.g., committee member, journal reviewer)
- Grant writing and applying for federal and/or state funding
Qualifications
Minimum: Terminal degree (PhD).
Desired: Prior experience working with animals is preferred. Candidates with expertise and publications demonstrating analyses of -omics data, specifically proteomics/glycoproteomics, RNA-seq, and/or single-cell genomics, and familiarity with glycobiology are preferred.
