About the Role

The Center for Cardiac Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Associate to support research projects in the field of cardiomyocyte biology and cardiac regeneration. The primary functions of this position involve design, execution, and control of laboratory research studies under the direction of the principal investigator.

The Postdoctoral Associate should have a strong background in molecular biology, histological analysis, and cardiac surgery in animal models. Postdoctoral Associates with experience in cardiac physiology are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, and conduct experiments related to the mission of the lab
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Assist in the preparation of research manuscripts and presentations for publication and conferences
  • Train laboratory professionals and students
  • Develop and revise existing research methodologies
  • Perform critical analyses of relevant literature
  • Oversee the general maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot instruments and protocols as necessary
  • Support research projects in the field of cardiomyocyte biology and cardiac regeneration
  • Design, execute, and control laboratory research studies under the direction of the principal investigator
  • Plan, direct, and conduct specialized and advanced research experiments
  • Evaluate and analyze data
  • Establish new research protocols and procedures
  • Summarize research findings and publish results in research journals
  • Work and be responsible for laboratory operations
  • Supervise research staff
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field
  • No experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD level of wet laboratory experience, preferably in cardiac physiology
  • Strong background in molecular biology, histological analysis, and cardiac surgery in animal models
  • Experience in cardiac physiology is a plus
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
