ResearchFull-time

About the role

The Kovalski lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a postdoctoral research fellow to study the molecular mechanisms of post-transcriptional gene expression in health and disease. The lab focuses on understanding how RNA binding proteins (RBPs) remodel the cellular proteome to drive oncogenic transformation and how RBPs functionally repurpose during cell transitions from a healthy to malignant state.

Responsibilities

- Utilize cell culture models and proximity proteomics to map RBP interaction networks across cellular compartments. - Perform CLIP-sequencing, RNA structure probing, polysome-sequencing, and in vivo cancer mouse models to dissect mechanisms of post-transcriptional control in normal and cancer cells. - Collaborate with other lab members to apply for fellowships as part of their training.

Requirements

- Recent Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree with a background in RNA biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or cellular and molecular biology. - Strong publication record and evidence of scientific accomplishment. - Desirable: bioinformatics skills.

Qualifications

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Experience with genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, and advanced imaging techniques.

Skills

- Proficiency in cell culture techniques. - Expertise in proximity proteomics and CLIP-sequencing. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Benefits

- Access to outstanding core facilities supporting genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, and advanced imaging. - Rich professional training and mentorship opportunities across UNC-Chapel Hill’s broader research community. - Opportunity to apply for fellowships as part of your training.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The position is full-time and permanent.
