Post-Graduate Law Clerk
The Office of the Illinois Attorney General is seeking third-year law students or recent graduates to serve as post-graduate law clerks in the General Law Bureau. The Bureau defends the State of Illinois and its people in civil trial litigation, including personal injury, property damage, and injunction cases, administrative hearings, and various state and federal court proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and use a student practice license to defend cases against State of Illinois agencies, employees, and officers.
- Assist in the response to complaints, drafting of pleadings, and responding to motions.
- Manage written and electronic discovery, conduct depositions, and represent client interests in administrative hearings and courts.
- Travel as required.
Qualifications
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Sound judgment and ability to work independently.
- Sit for and take the Illinois Bar Exam prior to starting.
Supplemental Information
Salary: $54,000 per year. Upon passing the Illinois Bar Exam, eligibility for promotion to Assistant Attorney General with a starting salary of $82,000 per year.
