Post-Doctoral Scientist — Technical Services/Manufacturing Science (TS/MS)

About the role

Post-Doctoral Scientists at Lilly are responsible for ensuring reliability of our manufacturing processes and systems, continuously searching for, developing, and implementing improvements, and driving technical projects in a rigorous manner for robust implementation. This position is within the Technical Services/Manufacturing Sciences (TS/MS) organization, providing technical and scientific support in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The role focuses on leading the technical development and commercialization aspects for parenteral drug products to ensure process robustness and capability across multiple scales.

This position is available beginning January 1, 2027, and is a fixed-duration role of two years, with potential to extend to three years (maximum of up to four years). Candidates will have the opportunity to apply for full-time positions after the duration is completed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain manufacturing processes in a state of compliance with US and global regulations.
• Design and develop drug processes and delivery systems.
• Lead technical development and commercialization for parenteral drug products to ensure process robustness and capability.
• Design and execute experiments to advance product and process knowledge, optimization, and production technical transfer.
• Understand the chemistry and stability (including oxidation/degradation pathways) of peptides and biomolecules.
• Develop laboratory-scale models to assess manufacturing changes.
• Apply scientific principles to bioproduct manufacturing, including interactions of molecule/solution chemistry with process equipment, containers, and delivery systems.
• Design, conduct, and analyze statistically designed experiments to deepen process understanding and optimize conditions.
• Understand scale-up requirements and partner with manufacturing sites as needed.
• Provide technical support to process development areas.
• Document all work appropriately.
• Mentor lab associates to enhance their technical capabilities.
• Participate in technology transfer as needed.
• Travel 0–10%.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a closely related field.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Lilly will not provide sponsorship for work authorization or visas for this role.

Skills

• Functional understanding of organic chemistry as applied to stability of peptides and biomolecules and characterization methods (preferred).
• Understanding of first principles impacting absorption/desorption properties of materials of construction.
• Demonstrated record of scientific achievement and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work well independently and in teams.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Pay

The anticipated wage for this position is $58,000 - $123,200, depending on education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
