About the role

The Materials Physics Center (MPC) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the “Electronic Excitations in Surfaces and Nanostructures” group. The successful candidate will work on developing innovative theoretical frameworks that bridge realistic material physics with quantum computing architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Research Scientist Andrés Ayuela
  • Focus on the theoretical description of materials with emerging quantum properties
  • Specialize in 2D materials, molecular quantum magnetism, and spintronic materials in the THz regime

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience with theoretical modeling of materials
  • Strong background in quantum mechanics and computational methods
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research combining material science and quantum computing

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for cutting-edge research in quantum materials and computing

Skills

  • Proficiency in quantum chemistry software (e.g., VASP, SIESTA)
  • Experience with density functional theory (DFT)
  • Knowledge of Python or similar programming languages for simulations
