About the role

Tennessee State University invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate, a 1.5-year grant-funded appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Statewide Extension Irrigation Specialist to advance research and Extension programs focused on precision irrigation management, agricultural water-use efficiency, and digital agriculture technologies.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate research projects at Tennessee State University’s experimental sites, while also partnering with agricultural research facilities across the state.
  • Support experimental design and field operations.
  • Integrate and monitor sensor-based technologies.
  • Analyze research data.
  • Communicate findings to both scientific and agricultural audiences.
  • Contribute to the preparation and publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and Extension outreach materials.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Irrigation Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel to research sites across Tennessee.
  • Experience working with soil–plant–atmosphere monitoring tools, remote sensing tools.
  • Effective programming and data analysis skills using Python, RStudio, or related programming Languages, or experience working with water balance or energy balance models.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, consistently completing tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Experience conducting field-based agricultural research in extreme weather conditions.
  • Prominent effective communication skills.

Qualifications

Pay

The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 annually.

Schedule
