Post Doctoral Research Associate

About the role

The Department of Data Science at William & Mary seeks a postdoctoral research associate to join a team focused on experimental medium energy nuclear physics, data science, and machine learning. The successful candidate will develop an AI-enabled framework for optimizing detector designs, particularly for the Electron Ion Collider.

Responsibilities

• Create and apply an AI-enabled framework for optimizing integrated detector designs.
• Utilize advanced data science techniques and multi-objective optimization methods for comprehensive analysis.
• Collaborate with the EIC community and contribute to AI4EIC workshops and hackathons.
• Participate in educational activities related to AI/ML.

Requirements

• Expertise in experimental medium energy nuclear physics.
• Experience with Geant4.
• Knowledge of multi-objective optimization.
• Experience with Bayesian reasoning.
• Data analysis skills for nuclear and particle physics experiments.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong publication record in relevant fields.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
