About the role

The VCU School of Nursing is accepting applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellow position. The successful candidate will have research and teaching foci that align with Drs. Lana Sargent and Amy Salisbury. We seek a scholar with experience in clinical research across the lifespan, aiming to deepen expertise in health outcomes using a life-course perspective, with a focus on women, children, and families, or older adults from a developmental perspective.

The fellow will participate in funded projects led by Drs. Sargent and Salisbury while building a foundation for their own research. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to research excellence, technical skills in project management, research data monitoring, and supervision of research teams, along with a history of teaching experiences, publications, and grant submissions.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting human-subject research, managing clinical trial protocols, and analyzing data from intervention studies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with established researchers on scholarly activities, including research design, study implementation, participant recruitment, data entry, database development, and data analysis.
  • Conduct literature reviews, develop and maintain IRB protocols, and ensure compliance.
  • Engage in manuscript and grant writing, and disseminate research at relevant conferences.
  • Participate in mentoring and professional development opportunities in research and teaching.
  • Develop research, teaching, and professional development plans aligned with professional goals in collaboration with mentors.
  • Teach at least one undergraduate or graduate course each year.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a health professions field (Nursing preferred).
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • A strong core of research preparation, including experience analyzing and publishing research findings.
  • Experience managing NIH-funded randomized controlled trials.
  • Experience supervising study personnel, including undergraduate research assistants.
  • Experience writing research grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with diverse faculty, staff, and students, or a commitment to do so.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in designing and conducting independent research.
  • Interest in implementation science, mobile health, and models of care.
  • Teaching experience (formal or informal) in an academic setting.

Pay

Starting at $60,000

Schedule

40 hours per week
