About the Role

A faculty member in the School of Nursing is expected to fulfill teaching, service, and scholarship responsibilities. Faculty members assume responsibility for developing, recommending, and executing the curriculum and all approved policies of instruction. The role involves delivering a portion of the curriculum, including oversight of students in clinical settings, and collaborating with key individuals as needed. The faculty member must remain current in practice through participation in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

Teaching

• Responsible for all aspects of teaching for assigned courses.
• Follow approved curriculum while delivering content for assigned courses.
• Provide feedback to the Curriculum Committees.
• Supervise students in clinical settings.
• Evaluate student progress in lecture, lab, and clinical settings through appropriate evaluation methods.
• Implement and comply with all TUN/SON policies.

Curriculum Development

• Participate in the ongoing curriculum review.
• Complete course report forms at the end of each semester.

Education Environment

• Promote an appropriate atmosphere for student education and be responsive to student needs.
• Report student progress to appropriate personnel.
• Prepare reports on student progress for faculty meetings.
• Facilitate student learning through provision of office hours and advisement.
• Promote student learning and facilitate a learning environment.

University Obligations

• Serve on committees within the School of Nursing (SON), Touro University Nevada (TUN), and the community at large.
• Function as student advisors to assigned group of students.
• Attend graduation, school, college, and student functions as required.
• Complete student status forms when appropriate.
• Implement TUN and SON approved policies as appropriate.
• Provide reports, budgetary information, and other documents as requested by Directors and Deans.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Scholarship

• Maintain academic and clinical expertise through scholarship activities.
• Actively engage in the advancement of the University.
• Build collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities (internal and external partners, other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.).
• Promote and represent the University at local, state, and national events (attending and participating in conferences, serving as a speaker/presenter, networking with colleagues, etc.).
• Coordinate in advance with the Office of Advancement/Public Relations team on all media contacts, communications, and interactions where serving as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson.
• Coordinate in advance with the Office of Advancement on all Touro-related legislative issues, including contact with national, state, and local government officials.
• Serve on various committees and teams within the University as assigned, including advising and mentoring students, clubs, and campus organizations.
• Contribute to the University’s compliance with accreditation requirements, including gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, and providing input/feedback.
• Remain knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Handbook for Touro University Nevada.
• Contribute to team efforts by performing other duties as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in nursing or a related field.
• Current Registered Nurse in Nevada.

Experience

• Two years of clinical nursing experience.
• Previous education experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong knowledge base in specialty area(s).
• A demonstrated ability and desire to teach.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the School of Nursing and the University.
• Ability to apply nursing science in the clinical setting.
