Post-Doctoral Fellow, Intelligence and Computing Lab

About the role

The Engineering a world of possibilities Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in Dr. Qiuhua Huang’s Power, Intelligence and Computing (PIC) lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. The lab focuses on power system, AI, computing, and control, aiming to enhance energy system resilience, digitalization, and decarbonization.

Responsibilities

• Support the PI to complete the assigned research tasks
• Participate in a weekly 1-hour meeting
• Meet weekly with each individual graduate student in research group for 30-60 minutes to provide research guidance
• Submit 2 proposals each year
• Submit 2 research papers each year
• Revise and resubmit other papers as needed
• Assist graduate students in submitting their work for publication, as appropriate

Requirements

• PhD in electrical engineering, or closely related field by June 1, 2026
• Expertise in power system simulation or resilience, OR physics-informed machine learning, OR geospatial data-driven modeling
• Demonstrated experience in distribution system modeling, quasi-static simulation, or digital twin development
• Prior work on wildfire risk, extreme events, or infrastructure resilience modeling
• Strong publication record in relevant areas
• Proficiency in Python and/or Java (experience with power system tools such as OpenDSS, GridLAB-D, PandaPower or InterPSS is a plus)
• Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and geospatial data processing
• Ability to work across physics-based and data-driven modeling
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams

• Available to start soon (preferably before June)
