Duties/Responsibilities
- Fabricate and optimize hemocompatible and antimicrobial biomaterials
- In vitro characterization of biomaterials and polymers
- Proposal writing and data reports
- Mentoring and supervising graduate students
About the role
The lab is in the new UGA Interdisciplinary STEM research building and is funded by competitive grants including several NIH R01s, DoD, and CDC. Our lab's interdisciplinary research focuses on the interface of materials, chemistry, bioengineering, biology, and medicine. Our current research focuses on biomaterials, polymer science, blood-surface interactions, antimicrobial surfaces, antifouling surfaces, and controlled delivery of therapeutic agents (e.g., nitric oxide).
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in biomaterials or a closely related field
- Strong background and experience in polymer chemistry, small molecule synthesis, biomaterials, controlled release/delivery, light, fiber optics, and photoactivated release, 3D printing, materials characterization, biomedical engineering, and materials and analytical chemistry
- Highly independent, self-driven, excellent communication skills, and motivated with a passion for research and translational research
- Passionate about designing projects independently and performing well in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment
- Outstanding publication record
Skills
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry, small molecule synthesis, biomaterials, controlled release/delivery, light, fiber optics, and photoactivated release, 3D printing, materials characterization, biomedical engineering, and materials and analytical chemistry
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to design and execute research projects independently
- Passion for translational research

The position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and is full-time for one year, with renewal subject to satisfactory performance in year 1 and continued funding.
