Core Job Summary

The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Additionally, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through significant contributions to the scientific community.

Core Job Functions

  • Cultivates and executes research on designated areas of study as directed.
  • Presents research findings in the form of reports and technical papers for publication.
  • Evaluates the feasibility of applying various scientific principles and theories.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest principles and theories in the field.

Core Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in a relevant field is required.
  • No previous experience is required.
  • No specific certifications or licenses are required at hire but completion of required research, laboratory safety, and compliance training is mandatory.
  • Minimum one year of relevant postdoctoral, industrial, or university research experience is preferred, including experimental design, data analysis, technical writing, and collaborative research support.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute laboratory and/or field experiments, analyze data, and maintain accurate research records.
  • Strong scientific writing skills, including preparation of manuscripts, technical reports, presentations, and grant-support materials.
  • Effective communication skills, including in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and external collaborators in a team-based research environment.
  • Proficiency with standard research software, data analysis tools, Microsoft Office applications, and laboratory instrumentation relevant to the department.
  • Knowledge of research compliance requirements, laboratory safety practices, and responsible conduct of research.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Department Specific Job Summary

Serves as a key contributor to the department's sponsored research, testing, and technology-development activities by planning and conducting experiments; collecting, analyzing, and documenting data; contributing to manuscripts, technical reports, and proposals; and collaborating with faculty, students, and staff to advance department and University research goals.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Plans and conducts department-specific research activities, including laboratory, computational, and/or field investigations, in support of funded and emerging projects.
  • Collects, curates, analyzes, and interprets experimental and research data; maintains complete, organized, and accessible records for faculty oversight and project reporting.
  • Prepares or contributes to manuscripts, technical memoranda, sponsor reports, presentations, invention disclosures, and other scholarly or translational research products.
  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
  • Aids faculty in developing proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and supporting technical content for extramural funding submissions, subject to required approvals.
  • Coordinates with internal and external collaborators, including sponsors, industry partners, and other University units, to advance project milestones and deliverables.
