Post-Bar Law Clerk

This recruitment is for upcoming temporary opportunities in the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office. Eligible applicants are those scheduled to graduate from law school in Spring 2026 (or later), who plan to take an upcoming California Bar Examination after graduation.

Responsibilities

• Examine and interpret evidence; check questions of law and evidence.
• Aid in the preparation of trial briefs and in the organization of investigations.
• Study, interpret, and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities for use in the preparation of cases, opinions, and briefs.
• Confer with investigators regarding the collection of facts; make investigations to collect facts; locate witnesses and parties.
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements

• Graduation from a recognized school of law.
• Scheduled to graduate from law school in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 (or later).
• Plan to take an upcoming California Bar Examination.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background investigation.

Skills

• Knowledge of the principles of law and their application.
• Knowledge of trial procedures and the rules of evidence.
• Knowledge of legal research methods and the preparation of briefs and opinions.
• Knowledge of county government functions and legal responsibilities.
• Ability to analyze, apply legal principles, facts, evidence, and precedents to legal problems.
• Ability to present statements of law, fact, and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with staff, departmental representatives, and the public.
• Ability to perform research and prepare legal opinions.

Pay

Approximate salary: $22.03 - $26.78/hour.
