About the role

Rooted in our Christian faith, Bethany Christian Services works to ensure children are safe, loved, and connected through family. As a Post Adoption Specialist, you will help adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents find reliable information and services to meet their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-home visits and assessments on a monthly basis (frequency may vary if family is involved in a support group).
  • Complete necessary paperwork for Post Permanency units of service from SWAN and maintain files for Bethany Christian Services.
  • Update the Post Adoption System (PAS) with case notes for all contacts and interactions in a timely manner.
  • Connect families to community resources and supports, attend meetings, and advocate for clients to educate their circle of services (parents, relatives, friends, school staff, mental health professionals).
  • Complete billing paperwork for services, regardless of funding source, on a monthly basis and on time.
  • Provide guidance to adoptive families on the use of respite services and connect them to community resources.
  • Maintain and update respite files for each family.
  • Facilitate and/or support adoptive family groups.
  • Accurately present Bethany Christian Services (BCS) to mental health providers, school staff, church staff, and other professionals working with adoptive families.
  • Attend trainings as needed and apply new knowledge in service provision.
  • Participate in group clinical supervision.
  • Obtain and maintain required training hours in accordance with state licensing, COA, and agency requirements.
  • Stay current with all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements related to social services.
  • Essential job responsibilities may vary based on program/department needs.
  • May be required to participate in Bethany-sponsored events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or equivalent field of study.
  • Prior work experience in adoption and foster care.
  • Demonstrated clinical and assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of state, community, and agency resources.
  • Knowledge of trauma, child development, the impact of grief and loss in adoption, and the lifelong impact of adoption across developmental stages (strongly preferred).
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, sometimes after normal business hours.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany.
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate coverage.
  • Must pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries.
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
