About the role

PRR is seeking a Senior Consultant to manage a variety of client projects across PRR’s transportation and environment sectors from Baltimore, MD. The ideal candidate will understand communications, public affairs, and public engagement for government projects. This is a hybrid role, with up to two days spent in a client office, the rest of the time can be remote work from home.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage scopes, communications plans, budgets, and schedules
  • Develop and oversee quality for contract deliverables
  • Edit technical information and complex information for public audiences
  • Develop and produce PowerPoint presentations and talking points
  • Plan and manage engagement activities and events, including open houses, neighborhood briefings, and other public meetings
  • Lead and coordinate media relations and media events, including responding to media inquiries and emerging issues in a prompt and accurate manner
  • Lead client meetings related to project communications and contract progress reporting
  • Proactively complete tasks
  • Delegate responsibilities as needed
  • Cope with distractions, handling numerous functions simultaneously
  • Set and maintain high standards for all communications to clients and project staff
  • Establish effective communication with clients, vendors, and communities
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients in the areas of communications and public outreach
  • Manage client expectations, anticipate needs, and proactively identify solutions and opportunities
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information
  • Submit invoices on time and request updates on late payments
  • Supervise and meet with staff (of 3) on a regular basis
  • Support staff development and work with staff on individual goals
  • Support staff workload, utilization, and productivity in coordination with project and division leadership
  • Independently solicit and win new projects by prospecting and cultivating new business and responding to RFPs/solicitations
  • Secure contract renewals and amendments
  • Represent firm to prospective and current clients
  • Develop and maintain area(s) of expertise that contributes to PRR’s lines of business

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in communications/engagement/public affairs consulting or government PIO work
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent at public speaking, meeting facilitation, and public engagement
  • Write concisely and quickly in a variety of styles, appropriate to a project’s communications objectives
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex technical information into plain talk
  • Demonstrated experience managing task/project scopes and budgets
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a small team

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of transportation planning, environmental review, and/or construction processes; especially for state agencies
  • An understanding of local, regional, and statewide public policy issues related to infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience planning and managing public events and outreach, working comfortably with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Affairs or commensurate experience

Schedule

This is a hybrid position that requires working in a client project office two days per week. The position will also support projects throughout PRR’s Mid-Atlantic region, including Baltimore, Maryland, and Hampton Roads, VA, and Washington D.C. Occasional travel is required to support client meetings, public meetings, community engagement activities, events, and other project needs requiring an on-site presence.

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee will regularly operate office equipment.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $125,000 - $152,000 USD per year (MD).
