The Role
The AVP Portfolio Manager will be assigned to the Specialty Finance division and is primarily responsible for leading the underwriting and management of portfolio of credits with varying complexity. In addition to managing credit risk, the AVP Portfolio Manager will focus on excellent customer service to retain clients and find ways to grow the loan and deposit base of existing customer relationships. The Portfolio Manager will also work to train and mentor junior staff as appropriate.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains existing portfolio credits against reporting, financial, and Bank policies. Provides regular updates to relationship managers and credit admin.
- Underwrites and coordinates the closing of Specialty Finance credit products in compliance with the Bank's lending policies and procedures.
- Helps mentor and coach junior team members with respect to underwriting and portfolio management.
- Analyzes market conditions to ensure proper underwriting standards and portfolio management are being maintained.
- Performs pre-qualification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within the framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends.
- Gathers and analyzes all information necessary to present a financing request to senior management or Loan Committee for approval; meets with existing or potential customers; visits sites of loans; negotiates loan terms and conditions.
- Collaborates with Business Development Officer or Relationship Manager to underwrite and process renewals of credit facilities.
- Authorizes commitment, engagement, adverse action and decline letters.
- Reviews NSF and overdraft reports for customers assigned within his or her portfolio; approves or declines such exceptions within established lending limits.
- Understands government regulations with particular emphasis on the Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations and ensures compliance with BSA regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of financial services and banking products
- Strong underwriting and portfolio management skills
- Financial modeling experience and comfort
- Ability to manage complex credits and client relationships
- Background in cash flow lending for sponsor-backed borrowers a plus
- Thrives in a dynamic and remote work environment
- Skilled communicator (written and verbal)
- Strong ability to lead and motivate junior staff
- Ability to interpret financial data and reports and when necessary, recommend appropriate actions
- Ensures absolute confidentiality in all areas of responsibility
