About the role

The Porter plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of Nick's Fish House. This position supports both Front of House and Back of House operations by ensuring dining areas, restrooms, walkways, outdoor spaces, and service areas remain clean, organized, and guest-ready at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the restaurant, including dining areas, patios, restrooms, entrances, walkways, and service stations.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and remove trash and recycling throughout the facility.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms regularly to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Absorb and break down outdoor dining areas, events, and special functions as needed.
  • Monitor and replenish restroom and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of parking areas, sidewalks, docks, and exterior guest spaces.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and transporting supplies throughout the restaurant.
  • Respond promptly to spills, safety hazards, and cleanliness concerns.
  • Support Front of House and Back of House teams with miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
  • Work as part of a team-service approach, collaborating with colleagues to maintain a stress-free and engaging work environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor, embodying Nick's values of Excellence, Teamwork, Respect, and Accountability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of prior janitorial, porter, maintenance, hospitality, or custodial experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining responsive to team needs.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to assist in a variety of operational tasks.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and properly use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Working as a Porter at Nick's requires stamina, reliability, and the ability to remain active throughout the shift.
  • Candidates must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods (6–10 hours per shift).
  • Lift and carry cleaning supplies, trash bags, furniture, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and climb stairs.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Push and pull carts, trash receptacles, and cleaning equipment.
  • Safely operate cleaning tools and equipment.

Pay

This position starts at $15.00 per hour or commensurate with experience.
