Portable Sanitation Technician

About the role

The Portable Sanitation Technician is primarily responsible for operating a company truck and driving to various customer locations to deliver, pick up, maintain, service, or repair portable restrooms, hand sinks, holding tanks, or any assigned asset. This position may involve daily routes, pick-up and delivery schedules, yard/shop assistance, or special events. The role is exposed to extreme weather conditions, unpleasant odors, and sights, with varying physical demands.

Stallion operates as a team environment, and technicians may be asked to assist in different departments or tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operates truck safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Maintains a clean truck inside and out.
• Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections per Stallion procedures and D.O.T. guidelines; reports major concerns to the Branch Operations Manager without delay.
• Follows all Stallion’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and General Standards.
• Immediately reports unsafe situations or service-related issues to the dispatch office for resolution.
• Performs tasks assigned by the Branch Operations Manager, including delivery and pick-up of rental equipment, restocking trucks, organizing the shop or yard, assisting in other departments, or responding to emergency calls.
• Provides consistent service for customers’ portable restrooms or related assets by following Stallion Service Steps.
• Maintains clean and organized work areas in the yard and reports hazards to the Branch Manager.
• Communicates with the Branch Operations Manager and office staff regarding job hindrances such as low inventory, keys, chemicals, or supplies.
• Submits all route information and paperwork to the office at the end of each shift.
• Utilizes dispatching software for routing, documenting photos, logging customer concerns, and providing real-time updates during the route.
• Maintains professional interaction with employees and customers at all times.
• Delivers courteous and expeditious customer service, documenting all contact in real time using the provided routing software tablet.
• Answers customer questions and directs them to the office for additional information.
• Provides routing feedback to the office and Dispatcher to optimize efficiency and customer service.
• Wears uniforms at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read, operate, and understand an electronic map/GPS/dispatching system using a phone or iPad.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, including prolonged physical exertion such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
• General knowledge of truck mechanics.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind).
• Good written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with staff and customers.
• Ability to pull a trailer preferred.
• Waste industry experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• One year of previous commercial driving experience preferred.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass pre-employment background screen and drug and alcohol tests.
• Must stay up to date on current technology used by Stallion.
• Understanding of waste collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and D.O.T./State requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
• Ability to hear and see within normal ranges, with or without correction.

Work Environment

• Works in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather variations (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind), noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
• Possible exposure to human waste and high-traffic conditions outside the vehicle.
• Position is primarily outdoors and/or involves driving a GPS-monitored vehicle.
• Physically able to:
  • Push or pull independently (unassisted) 50 pounds between 25 and 50 times a day.
  • Lift independently (unassisted) 50 pounds from the ground to waist height between 25 and 50 times a day.
  • Get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 30 and 50 times a day.
  • Lift with assistance (helper) 100 pounds between 20 and 30 times a day.
  • Bend at the waist and knees between 120-150 times a day.
  • Reach overhead and pull down using 20 pounds of force to secure a tarp.
  • Climb up to 8 feet in height to deploy a 25-pound tarp.
  • Work 8 to 12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, and snow).
