About the role
Reports to: Branch Manager
Konecranes has many opportunities open across the United States for mechanically inclined individuals. At Konecranes, service technicians are the heart of our industry. Our technicians work in a safety-first environment and are comfortable working at heights or on mechanical parts. You will work with 480V 3-phase motors, troubleshoot crane issues, and collaborate with clients and facility directors to ensure proper customer care. A company vehicle is provided for travel, offering new and challenging situations with each job.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and inspections on Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG’s), Ship to Shore (STS), Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG), Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC), Straddle Carriers, Munck Loader, Goliath Gantry, and Level Luffing cranes at customer locations.
- Conduct extensive on-site electrical, electronic, and mechanical troubleshooting to determine equipment malfunctions and establish necessary repairs using visual inspection, test procedures, and appropriate test equipment.
- Perform on-site repairs on customer cranes as part of planned maintenance contracts, service calls, or emergency breakdown responses.
- Maintain a basic understanding and working knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and other industry codes or regulations; retrieve specific regulations when requested.
- Complete all daily paperwork accurately and thoroughly. Document and log customer quotations (verbal or written) and generate follow-up sheets.
- Review repairs with customers and obtain their signature on daily service reports to confirm acceptance of completed work.
- Maintain a professional appearance and image at all times.
- Keep company equipment and assets in proper working order, clean, and neat.
- Maintain a stock of appropriate forms and literature on the service vehicle and utilize proper documentation for the service department.
- Keep a proper stock level of inventory and line items on the service vehicle.
- Account for all company-issued tools, ladders, and assigned inventory.
- Generate sales and service leads during service calls and identify the appropriate Konecranes personnel based on customer needs and interest levels.
- Develop a thorough working knowledge of service literature, policies, and labor rates.
- Provide customers with a “Safety Summary” for any safety items noticed during service visits and return a signed copy as evidence of notice.
- Maintain regular communication with the local office, checking in at least once per day with the service supervisor.
- Understand the procurement of basic parts for service jobs, complete proper purchase orders, and develop a good working knowledge of local vendors and their stocked parts. Order parts for jobs when permitted or warranted, billing time to the project.
- Work a “fair share” of any 24-hour call and necessary overtime, divided as equally as possible by the service supervisor.
- Complete a “Safety Audit” on limit switches and general crane operation before leaving the customer’s premises.
Requirements
- Minimum one (1) year of experience involving electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Willingness and ability to work at heights and in demanding work environments.
- Willingness to work overtime, travel out of town, and be on-call as necessary.
Qualifications
Preferred: Two-year associate degree in Industrial Electrical/Mechanical Technology or related field, or equivalent vocational/technical training and experience.
