Port Captain

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations across multiple vessels and terminals within the LA/LB area, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.
• Act as the key liaison between vessel crews, terminal personnel, and senior leadership to facilitate effective communication.
• Guarantee that all marine activities are conducted safely, in compliance with regulations, and with operational efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with Port Engineers to oversee maintenance, repairs, and fleet readiness.
• Promote a robust safety culture through audits, incident reporting, and investigations.
• Support workforce management for both union and non-union staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Track operational KPIs, analyze performance metrics, and implement improvements as needed.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to captains and crews across multiple locations.
• Oversee approximately 10 assets and support around 85 mariners, including union members (IBU) and non-union leadership.

Requirements

• Extensive marine operations experience, with a preference for tug and barge background.
• Proven sailing leadership experience, such as Captain or Mate, with a track record of managing vessel operations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi-vessel, multi-location operations within a complex environment.
• Familiarity with union settings, with IBU experience strongly preferred.
• Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-visibility setting that demands adaptability and decisiveness.
• Strong operational acumen with the capacity to manage expanding operations and increasing complexity.
