Polysomnographic Technologist

About the role

The Polysomnographic Technologist operates Polysomnographic equipment to diagnose and treat sleep-related disorders under the general supervision of the Director or Medical Director. The technologist must thoroughly understand all monitored parameters used in computer scoring and report preparation, and be able to institute and maintain life-saving measures.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Polysomnographic equipment for sleep disorder diagnosis and treatment.
• Understand and monitor all parameters used in computer scoring and report preparation.
• Institute and maintain life-saving measures as required.
• Adhere to infection control protocols.
• Demonstrate safe and knowledgeable practice skills based on theory and policies.
• Communicate clearly in written and verbal form.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences (preferred).
• 2 years of prior experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
• Experience at an AASM-accredited Sleep Center (preferred).
• CPSGT certification (required; must take registry exam within 3 years before certification expires).
• Completion of all 14 modules of the BRPT/AASM A-Step Program to qualify for the Polysomnography Registry.
• Maintain continuing education units as required by PSGT Certification.
• BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
• RRT-SDS credentials may substitute for CPSGT Certification.

Skills

• Knowledge of Polysomnography equipment and procedures.
• Understanding of infection control practices.
• Moderate proficiency in basic computer skills.

Pay

Pay range: $29.23 – $42.58 per hour.

• Evening differential: $4.25 per hour.
• Night differential: $8.00 per hour.
• Weekend differential: $4.75 per hour.
