Polysomnographic Technician, Sleep Lab
Performs the duties of a Sleep Lab Technician, scores sleep records of patients, and prepares them for physician interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Performs duties of a Sleep Lab Technician and evaluates PSG and MSLT recordings.
- Generates computerized PSG reports.
- Interprets raw data: scores polysomnograms for sleep stages using standardized criteria.
- Computes parameters including sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and percentage of sleep stages.
- Analyzes apneas and arousals (muscle and spontaneous).
- Determines heart rate ranges for waking and sleeping stages.
- Identifies and quantifies abnormalities in cardiac activity and respiration.
- Identifies normal/abnormal patterns, artifacts, and sleep/wake stages.
- Assists with marketing the sleep lab to the outside community and staff physicians.
- Provides information to medical staff regarding test capabilities and requirements to increase knowledge of polysomnographic testing.
- Provides in-service education to sleep lab staff.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Vocational/technical training and a minimum of one year’s job-related experience or equivalent.
- Registered Polysomnography Technologist certification is required.
