Policy Director
About the role
The Policy Director manages the University policy program. This includes daily management and process reviews of the University Policy Manual (UPM) website and the System policy repository. They conduct end-to-end policy reviews according to the 6-year policy review cycle, triage policy issues, maintain processes, and assist with setting the strategic direction of the policy program under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).
Responsibilities
- Serves as the key contact for UNT policies and the policy revision and development process.
- Collaborates daily with policy owners and stakeholders to assess policy needs, including guiding policies through their revision life cycle and proposing new policies when needed, including benchmarking and research.
- Assists policy owners in reviewing policies to ensure they comply with University standards and avoid conflicts or duplication.
- Coordinates the policy review and approval process with the Policy Advisory Group (PAG), the Office of General Counsel, the President’s Office, and others.
- Daily management of multiple software programs used in the policy review and tracking processes.
- Develops systems to track policy review statuses and communicate progress.
- Ensures consistent style, structure, and documentation of policy changes.
- Organizes cyclical reviews of UPM policies.
- Maintains a historical database of current and former policies, which includes management of several software programs.
- Actively works with leadership on policy development and management.
- Manages daily UPM administrative functions.
- Analyzes and improves policy workflow processes.
- Advises the CCO on policy program improvements and reporting.
- Develops training and briefing materials related to the University policy program.
- Maintains the UPM website and policy communications.
- Attends continuing professional education seminars and conferences.
- Collaborates with stakeholder offices on pending legislation and associated policy requirements.
- Assists with special projects as needed.
- Distributes new and revised policies campus-wide.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in public policy, business administration, communications, or a related field, and five years of professional policy development, management, or coordination, or equivalent experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include effectiveness in collaborating and building relationships with key stakeholders; demonstrated commitment to collaboration and teamwork across organizational levels and boundaries; ability to deliver information effectively in a variety of settings including one-on-one, team settings, presentations, and various written forms such as letters, memos, analytical reports, and decision documents; ability to research, evaluate, and analyze complex or conflicting data/information, develop valid conclusions and recommendations, and prepare clear and concise written reports on complex subject matter; ability to analyze complex data and prepare concise reports; ability to learn and use multiple software platforms; proficiency with Windows-based email and other standard office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, project and policy management software, and similar programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, business administration, communications, or a related field.
- Five years of professional policy development, management, or coordination, or equivalent experience.
