Role Description

The Data Management Department Americas Division (DMDAD) of the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO) works with group companies and functional areas on a wide range of data driven initiatives that will help accelerate SMBC’s data maturity journey. This includes ensuring the quality, integrity, and useability of the company’s critical data assets.

Role Objectives

  • Support and coordinate with SMBC entities and business functions on enterprise Data Governance strategy roll out including establishing, managing and implementing policy adoption plans, compliance metrics, communications and training
  • Produce recommendations for enterprise-wide Data Governance guiding principles, policies, standards, processes and practices in alignment with SMBCAD’s Chief Data & Analytics Office
  • Identify improvement opportunities to streamline processes and maximize efficiencies within the Data Governance program
  • Interface with Functional Data Officers and other enterprise stakeholders on Data Governance policies and standards; ensure roles and responsibilities related to data are understood and implemented across businesses
  • Support key Data Transformation projects across the organization as Subject Matter Expert in Data Governance
  • Affords assistance in the remediation of Audit and Regulatory feedback on issues related to Data Governance

Qualifications And Skills

  • 10+ years of experience, Banking or Finance industry preferred in a Data Governance, Data Controls, Policy Compliance or related area
  • Bachelor’s/University degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate business ideas and topics to technical and nontechnical audience
  • Ability to collaborate with and successfully contribute to cross-functional teams and work with people from regions around the world
  • Ability to influence people outside the immediate span of control, negotiate and resolve conflicts, and work with stakeholders in various departments of the firm, or across lines of defense
  • Ability to work under pressure, operate comfortably in a fast-paced, demanding environment, and manage a significant workload with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized individual with exceptional attention to details, strong sense of accountability and collaboration skills
  • Working knowledge of Data Governance, Data Operating Model practices, and Data Compliance within medium/large, financial institutions
  • Knowledge of SQL and Collibra is a plus
  • MS Office (Word, Advanced Excel Formulas, Power Point), MS Project and Visio
  • Familiarity with PowerBI or Tableau
