Policy Analyst

About the role

The New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC) is a regulatory and law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over the trade waste industry and the City’s public wholesale markets. BIC’s goals include keeping industries free of organized crime and corruption, ensuring fair competition, equitable treatment for customers, and public safety while promoting honesty and integrity in regulated businesses.

Responsibilities

• Utilize data from internal and external sources to track metrics related to safety compliance and violations; complete policy projects and draft documents to explain findings and make recommendations.
• Work closely with the agency’s data analyst.
• Participate in BIC safety initiatives, including Vision Zero-related matters.
• Draft and issue communications (e.g., official notices, outreach, town hall events) and follow up with BIC-regulated companies on policy matters.
• Attend interagency meetings, including Intergovernmental Affairs, Vision Zero, and Citywide events.
• Assist the Director of Policy with policy initiatives, communications, and special projects as directed.
• Ensure compliance with BIC regulatory reporting and safety rules, including the issuance of administrative safety violations.
• Conduct outreach and communications via social media, press, and legislative affairs.
• Collaborate cross-departmentally on special projects and policy initiatives.
• Track and monitor policies, current events, and legislation related to BIC.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described; or
• High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described; or
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. All candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in the first option.
