About the role

The City of Fort Worth Police Trainee Program offers a paid training path to become a sworn police officer. Trainees earn approximately $5,460 per month during the Police Academy and approximately $6,725 per month ($80,709 annually) upon graduation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; or GED Certificate plus 12 semester hours with a “C” average from an accredited college or university
  • Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application and able to read and write English
  • Age 20–50 (must be at least 20 and not yet 51 by the last date of the entry-level test)
  • Valid and current driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Additional Exam Points

  • Veteran: up to 5 points for honorable discharge (DD-214 required by 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2026; email to CCCTesting@fortworthtexas.gov)
  • Education: up to 5 points for a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Cadets: 2 points for graduates of the Fort Worth Police Department’s Cadet Program

Selection Process

To be selected for a Police Academy Training Class, applicants must successfully complete:

  • Written or electronic exam
  • Physical assessment tests
  • Polygraph examination
  • Interview board
  • Medical examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Extensive background check

Passing candidates are placed on the Police Trainee Program eligibility list for up to one year or until the list is exhausted.
