About the role
The Southern University at New Orleans Police Department (SUNOPD) is a full-service law enforcement agency committed to creating a productive and safe environment for all members of the campus community. SUNOPD employs professional, highly trained police officers who work 24/7 to enforce local, state, and federal laws.
Responsibilities
- Supervise police officers in patrol and incident investigations
- Prepare shift notices and assignments
- Conduct pre-hire evaluations of prospective police officer candidates
- Conduct performance evaluations
- Make recommendations in matters concerning employee discipline and retention
- Review police documentation including incident and accident reports and daily logs
- Aid commanders in establishing procedures
- Pursue and apprehend fleeing suspects
- Conduct accident and crime investigations
- Prepare detailed reports, including State Motor Vehicle Accident Reports and State Uniform Incident Reports
Requirements
- Three years of law enforcement experience
- Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of 60 semester hours for two years of experience
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must possess a current Louisiana driver's license
- May require possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification
Qualifications
- Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for the 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE)
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or indicted on a felony charge
