Carnegie Mellon University's Police Department (UPD) is searching for highly motivated Police Officers eager to serve the CMU community. Responsibilities
- Conduct general police, security, and watchman-style foot and mobile patrols of property used, owned, or occupied by Carnegie Mellon University, in all weather conditions and temperatures.
- Protect life and property, preserve public peace, and ensure the safety and security of the campus by enforcing all Federal, state, and local laws, and university policies.
- Investigate and document suspicious activity, persons, and unsafe conditions immediately through written reports.
- Provide assistance to security guards and traffic monitors, and offer general information to university personnel and visitors.
- Respond to emergencies with professionalism and composure, interacting with all campus constituents in a calm and polite manner.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent semester credits preferred.
- Previous security or police training preferred.
- A combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating comparable knowledge may be considered.
Requirements
- Extensive law enforcement background investigation, including credit check, criminal history, driving record, physical exam, drug & alcohol screening, and psychological evaluation per the Chief of Police and PLEAC Accreditation Standards.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- PA Act 120 certification at time of hire.
- PA Child Protection Clearance (Act 153).
