Employment Process
Qualified applicants must successfully complete the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test. The test is available at this website. Qualified applicants will be required to attend the Physical Agilities test on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
Written Examination
Applicants who pass the Physical Agilities Test will be scheduled to participate in a written examination the same day, scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. APOST Certification Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to pass a background check
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
Job Duties
Performs a variety of law enforcement duties in the preservation of public peace and prevention of crimes, including protecting life and property, enforcing all laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, making arrests, providing credible testimony in various courts, conducting traffic surveys to determine problem areas, assisting in school and community functions, as well as, public relations activities, and other cases as assigned.
