Employment Process
Qualified applicants for employment with the Hoover Police Department must successfully complete the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test. The Physical Agilities/Abilities Test is available at this website. Qualified applicants will be required to attend the Physical Agilities test on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
Written Examination
Applicants who pass the Physical Agilities Test will be scheduled to participate in a written examination the same day, scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. APOST Certification Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department.
Qualifications
- Age: 21 years of age as of August 13, 2026
- Valid Driver's License and City of Hoover Driver's Permit
- U.S. Citizen
- Pass Background Check
- High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Preserve public peace and prevent crimes
- Enforce all laws and ordinances
- Investigate crimes and accidents
- Make arrests
- Provide credible testimony in various courts
- Conduct traffic surveys to determine problem areas
- Assist in school and community functions
- Perform public relations activities
- Perform other cases as assigned
