New Hire Incentive Pay

RECEIVE A SIGNING BONUS OF $50,000 DOLLARS ADDITIONAL BONUS OF $20,000 FOR MILITARY VETERANS AND/OR UP TO AN ADDITIONAL $30,000 FOR SPECIALIZED DETAIL TOTAL SIGNING BONUS UP TO $100,000

Qualification Guidelines

  • California Applicants: A current Peace Officer in the State of California. Graduation from an Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department.
  • Out-of-State Applicants: Must have graduated from a Police Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department.
  • Education: High School graduate.
  • Certificates/License: Must possess a POST Basic Certificate. Valid California Driver's License (prior to appointment date).
  • Age: Must be age 21 by the date of filing.

  • Name of candidates will be retained on the Eligible List (List for Hire) for a period of six (6) months.

  • Job and personal references.

Special Notes for Lateral Applicants

  • Lateral Officers who successfully completed a Field Training Program at a comparable agency: Minimum of four (4) months (last two months must be acceptable).
  • Lateral Officers with no prior patrol experience or who successfully completed a Field Training Program at a non-comparable agency: Minimum of seven (7) months (last two months must be acceptable).

Retirement Benefits

The City contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS.
